Dar Williams was one of the singers that defined high school for me. I have not listened to her in such a long time because I only owned one of her CDs (Beauty of the Rain). Everything else was on a long lost computer.
I am now in receipt of her entire discography. I forgot how much I loved her.
Well, my friends give me purple flowers and orange tea
and goosedown spinning quilts and torquoise chairs
we greet one another in a wild profusion of words
and wave farewell amidst the wonderment of air
In the laughing times we know we are lucky
In the quiet times we know that we are blessed
And we will not be alone
Well the light that stopped the night felt like forgiveness to you
as the garbage trucks came bustling through their rounds
you stared at the pictures on your walls and all the postcards from your friends as you heard the birds and old familiar sounds
That's when you knew this world can't be saved only discovered
And you knew things would be different than be before
And now you will not be alone any more
Dar Williams - Arrival, from The Honesty Room
Back to maps of the once newly discovered America.
And everyone who cracks on Jersey only does so because they are jealous of a state full of people who could kick their ass. Just a revelation after having way too many people make fun of my adoptive home state.
